GUILTY!
By Paul Wein
Today at 4:00pm Eastern Standard Time, I heard a sentence that made me a very happy man:
“We the jury in the above entitled cause find the defendant, Scott Lee Peterson, guilty of the crime of murder of Laci Peterson.”
Scott Peterson, who has been continuously denying that he killed his wife Laci and their unborn son, Connor, was convicted of first degree murder for Laci’s death – and second degree murder for Connor’s. When sentenced later this month, he has only two options ahead of him – life in prison without the possibility of parole – or the death penalty.
I say fry him.
For the last two years, Scott Peterson has been lying to the American people, to those closest to him – and to himself. He has relied on the same lawyer that is defending Michael Jackson to “prove his innocence.” He has gone on National television as the “grieving husband” and tried to convince America that he is not the one who committed these horrible crimes. And worst of all – he made sure that the last thing Laci Peterson ever saw was the man that she gave herself to in marriage strangling her to death.
According to those inside the closed courtroom, when the verdict was read, Sharon Rocha, Laci Peterson’s mother – instantly began sobbing and had to be consoled by her son Brent. Unable to speak about the case until the gag order is removed, Laci’s family thanked everyone who supported them through a statement posted on their website, www.lacipeterson.com and said that they would address the public, “at the appropriate time.” Personally, I can’t wait to hear what Sharon Rocha has to say. I know that deep down in her heart she knew, as we all did – that it was Scott Peterson who murdered her daughter and unborn grandson all along.
If I was married and my wife suddenly went missing, the first thing I would do is drop everything else in my life and not rest for a second until she was found. I wouldn’t go to work, I wouldn’t sleep or eat – and I certainly wouldn’t buy a boat and go fishing. Not only is that precisely what Scott Peterson did – but he also dyed his hair blonde, grew a goatee, took out ten thousand dollars in cash – and “borrowed” his brother’s passport. Certainly the behavior of a “grieving husband.”
When the verdict was read, a part of me was terrified that they would acquit him. With the problems the jury was having and the fact that they dismissed two jurors including the Foreperson earlier this week – I was afraid that this was going to be O.J. Simpson all over again. But, thankfully, Justice was rightfully served this time.
While I am not related to Laci Peterson or are directly effected by her tragic death, I am very thankful that Scott Peterson is never going to breathe the air of freedom ever again. Personally, I would rather he never breathe any air again. I hope that when the sentencing phase of his trial begins on November 22nd, that he be given the death penalty. No human being would do what he did and not only be able to lie about it for almost two years – but be able to live with himself and sit through his trial acting smug, arrogant and remorseless. I hope that the twelve men and women who were smart enough to convict Scott Peterson now realize how important it is to take his life away from him the way he took Laci and Connor’s lives away – just so he could live like a bachelor again.
I will be watching the sentencing phase very closely, and eagerly await the jury’s decision as to whether or not they will sentence him to death. I hope they do, but either way – no punishment inflicted on Scott Peterson will bring Laci and Connor back.
God Bless You Laci and Connor Peterson. I hope you are resting a little more peacefully now.
