A Penny For My Thoughts

Hey! AIG! Give Me Back My Money!

By Paul Wein

Right now, this economy is dropping faster than an avalanche on a ski slope. People are losing their jobs left and right, companies that have been around since before I was born are going out of business – and people are moving out of the home of their dreams due to foreclosure – and into the tent of their nightmares. To try and help us through this, President Barack Obama is pushing Stimulus Package after Stimulus Package to try and jump start our economy the way I was brought back from the dead four times when my heart stopped. The money he is giving the banks and the auto industry totals in the trillions of dollars. Some banks and auto companies have used this money to offer loans to everyday Americans so they can get back on their feet, others have gotten rid of old debts and settled with those on the brink of bankruptcy…

…and AIG has given their executives over $150 million in bonuses.

Are you serious?!

How dare this company, whose executives earned the moniker of posting the biggest one quarter loss in United States history – over $60 billion – have the audacity to think that they can take taxpayer dollars and “reward” those cretins who are responsible for getting us into this mess in the first place. I know for a fact that if I screwed up at my job, I wouldn’t get a bonus – I would get a pink slip. So how do they think they could possibly justify doing what they are doing?

Each day I watch the news and see politician after politician badmouth AIG, I realize that it makes no difference. They feel that these bonuses were, “contractually obligated” and that they have, “no choice” but to use money that we – the American Taxpayer – will eventually have to pay back – to award these Fatcats for flushing our economy down the toilet. So let me get this straight – if I got into finance instead of Journalism, ruined a company that has cost thousands of people their jobs, homes or life savings – I would be rewarded with enough money to live comfortably for the rest of my life?

Wow.

In my opinion, those scumbags are not even on the same level as Bernie Madoff – they are worse. They know exactly what is going on with this country right now, they know that the money they are receiving is coming from us, the ones who are suffering – and they are grabbing it like a thief who snatches a woman’s purse – not caring one bit if the contents of the purse they just stole is all the woman had in her life…

…and no doubt sleeping like a baby.

Today would have been my friend Bradd’s 41st birthday – may he rest in peace. He used to amend a well known cliché that I would like to dedicate to those who work at AIG. Did you ever hear the expression, “I wouldn’t spit on that person if they were on fire?” If I came across one of these bastards who took my tax money for their greedy bonuses and they were on fire…

…to quote Bradd, “Oh yeah, I’d spit on them.”

Spend the bonus money wisely AIG scum – but be sure and save a chunk of it – because no doubt a one-way ticket to Hell is pretty expensive these days.
